More Than Research Tools

ResearchCom grew from a problem I know personally: having complex ideas doesn't always mean you can retrieve, organize, and express them clearly.

Aphasia and other neurological injuries can interfere with language, word retrieval, sequencing, and communication. That does not necessarily mean the ideas are gone. Sometimes the problem is reaching them, organizing them, and finding a way to make what is understood internally understandable to someone else.

My own writing led me to a different approach.

I begin with a core idea. Through repeated questioning and revision, I find cues that bring out what was already there—connections, memories, explanations, scenes, arguments, and meanings that support the original idea. When something becomes confusing or contradictory, the answer isn't simply supplied to me. I am questioned about what I intended.

That distinction matters.

​

The system does not decide what a person means. It helps the person discover, organize, and articulate what they mean.

That principle helped me develop specialized research and assistive systems.

​

The goal is not to replace human thinking. It provides structure, continuity, productive questions, and controlled information to help a person work through complicated ideas while remaining the author of those ideas.

​

For someone living with aphasia, neurological injury, or another communication difficulty, that possibility reaches beyond compensation for a deficit. It can support writing, research, creativity, intellectual development, communication, and meaningful work.

​

My theoretical approach is therefore concerned not only with rehabilitation, but with self-actualization: helping people continue developing what they are capable of becoming rather than defining their future entirely by what an injury changed.

ResearchCom grew from that idea.

GENERAL AI KNOWS A LITTLE ABOUT ALMOST EVERYTHING. THAT IS ALSO THE PROBLEM.

​

General AI is extraordinary when you need breadth, brainstorming, writing assistance, or a quick answer. But serious research creates a different problem.

Ask a general AI a specialized question, and it can draw from an enormous universe of information. That sounds like an advantage—until you need to know what information it used, whether competing traditions or theories were mixed, whether an outdated claim slipped into the answer, whether an unsupported connection was made, or whether something that sounds authoritative was wrong.

The broader the information environment, the harder it becomes to control the answer.

ResearchCom approaches the problem from the opposite direction.

Instead of asking an AI to know everything, I build a specialized research environment around one defined subject.

I determine what belongs in the system and what does not. I research and select sources, build and organize the records, define terminology, establish evidence and subject boundaries, and create rules governing how the information can be connected and retrieved.

Then I try to break it.

These systems did not appear overnight. More than 300 failed model builds, and hundreds of failed tests came before the systems you see here. Every failure exposed another problem—bad retrieval, weak routing, missing records, source contamination, or an answer that did not work. I kept rebuilding and testing until I learned how to make these systems work.​

I ask hundreds of questions. I test obvious questions, obscure questions, badly worded questions, ambiguous questions, and questions designed specifically to expose weaknesses. I look for missing information, false connections, confused terminology, incomplete answers, contamination between subjects, and retrieval failures.

​

When I find a failure, I don't simply tell the system to "do better." I find out why it failed, repair the records or the system itself, and test it again.

​

Some of these systems have gone through dozens—and in some cases more than one hundred development versions. Behind the successful models are also hundreds of experiments, tests, repairs, and designs that did not work.

​

THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE.

With general AI, you ask a question and hope the enormous system correctly navigates everything it knows.

With ResearchCom, we deliberately construct the research environment before you ask the question.
